Samsam Petherbridge (b. 1993, London),
is an artist, poet, bookbinder, and printmaker whose practice is rooted in storytelling through image and text. Working primarily with aquatint etching, their work explores the space between memory and fiction, where place, desire, and lived experience remain in fluid relation.
Samsam’s work is shaped by walking, observation, and personal encounters, gathering fragments that are reassembled into layered compositions. These images sometimes take the form of prints and are often accompanied by poetry or short texts that operate as a form of narration, inviting the viewer into a slowed, attentive mode of looking. Storytelling remains central to the practice, informed by a background in community theatre and ongoing collaborations with writers and artists. Residencies in the UK and abroad continue to inform a way of working grounded in intimacy with people, landscape, and the page.
